Jesus bore the cross alone
Up Calvary's mount, there sin to atone
His back was beat, His brow was crowned
Not with gold, but with thorns around
He died that day, suffered great loss
He won a crown by bearing a cross
Now he sits in heaven on high
And I in faith unto him draw nigh
I see his hands, twice piercéd thru
Once for me, once for you
I see his brow so wise and fair
Yet still the marks of thorns are there
Those thorns so cruel, now replaced
By a crown of glory and grace
Christians hear and heed the call
A cross has been given to each and all
Who call upon the Savior's name
So take it up and bear his shame
Suffer joyfully, take up your cross
Your crown in glory is worth the cost
